NSW has 22 million hectares of native forest, with only a tiny percentage, the equivalent of 14 trees in every 10,000 – sustainably harvested each year in regrowth forests.
NSW accounts for about 40% of Australia’s one-million hectare softwood plantation estate, around 393,000 hectares.
AFPA NSW members are 100% globally certified for their sustainable management.
NSW’s forest industries are carbon positive – storing carbon in the growing forests and in the products produced from them.
All NSW forests are replanted (plantations) or regenerated (multi-use public forests) after harvest.
Timber processing includes softwood sawmills producing structural timber for construction, hardwood sawmills producing appearance grade timbers, engineered wood products and pulp and paper processors.
NSW’s Forest Products Industries employ 21,000 people across the state.
